Ouch!

Little Greta is on the move and exploring and learning. . . she's loved her independence! Today she discovered the kitchen. Drawers open. Cupboards do too. Fun things and fun times.

But kitchens hold a few dangers that even Mom didn't think to protect the little explorer from. The oven was on and while the outside of the oven is not hot while baking, the bottom of the door is VERY hot. And things are worse when chunky little hands get stuck in between the drawer and the bottom of the oven door. Poor dear. All we can do for her is smear it with aloe vera, (that she promptly wipes off or licks up) keep her going with Motrin and try to prevent infection. The picture on the left is right after it happened; the one on the right is a few hours after. It is blistering up quite nicely.

And why is it with things like this that is always harder on mommies than babies? Tom and Cache have been getting some good pokes in on how frantic I was. So if you're my neighbor, don't be surprised to get a call for help if something really bad happens---the kids will call because Mom can't cope!

Ouch! That looks like it hurts a lot. I remember dropping hot sucker goo on my fingers. Still have the scar today!

Oh Greta! Liberty pulled a curling iron down on her when she started walking and burned her arm nicely. It made me queasy, so Darcee I can sympathize with you! My mom had some Silverdean that i used for her arm.(I'm not sure how its spelled) It really helps sooth and heal intense burns. Firefighters use it. The only problem is... its prescription. If I ever find a place( fingers are crossed and I'm hopeful!) that sells it, I'll have to pick you up some! Every home first aid kit should have it! I hope it heals up for her.

So SAD. You know I have to say it though...when it gets a little further along in the healing process (blisters pop) you could try carmex and wrap it in a bandage. I wish I would of taken pictures of when Savannah slid and took off the whole top layer of skin off her nose. It looked so AWFUL. She put the carmex on 5 times a day and within 3 days it looked so very much better. I try to not be forceful when I tell people about it because some people just think...no, but it's worked so well for us.

Oh...poor little girl! I feel mommy's pain too!

One day before Christmas I was cooking soup and Drew and Mary were fighting over who got to stir. Mary pushed Drew or something (I was not watching even though I was right there!) and to catch himself he put his hand out. The pan got pushed out of the way and his thumb ended up on the hot burner (about 4 inches long). It was so awful. (I did not think to take a picture.) It hurt so bad. We have the fire fighter stuff too and we also used aloe vera (Alexa used to call it alla better.) So so so not fun for anyone!
