Tom and I had to have a health evaluation for a wellness plan with our insurance. Yesterday I got the results back. I am at moderately high risk for sleep apnea. The report says that I should schedule an exam with my doctor at my earliest convenience. How did they determine this condition? A handy little questionnaire. Here are the questions:
Do you get sleepy while sitting quietly after lunch? Of course!
Do you get sleepy in a car while stopped for a few minutes in traffic? Sometimes. . .
Do you get sleepy while sitting and reading? Almost always!
Do you get sleepy while watching television? Hard to judge because I don't ever watch TV, but if I ever do, I zone out and fall asleep.
Do you get sleepy as a passenger in a car for an hour without break? Of course!
Do you get sleepy while lying down to rest in the afternoon? Who doesn't?
Do you get sleepy while sitting and talking to someone? No (one right answer!)
The report says sleep apnea is treatable with medication. What kind of medication are they going to give a busy mom with teenagers that keep her up late at night and toddlers/babies that get her up early in the morning that will spare her from these sleepy conditions? I'd like to have it!!!! BTW, Tom has an elevated risk for it too. Last night as we were crawling into bed at 11:30 I said, "Looks like we're going to have another case of sleep apnea tomorrow!" And sure enough it's here.

As one who really does have sleep apnea, I want to offer some really clever comment, but it hasn't come to me yet! Then when you combine it with all the sleepiness that parenting brings, it's a double whammy. When I come up with my perfect clever comment, I'll let you know.
I have sleeping pills as you know for right after chemo. They totally wipe me out and I do not reccommend them!
LOL! I sure hope you can get that under control.... :)
