Play Time

I've been trying harder with Tessa. . . She is one who needs (or at least asks) for constant play time with someone. If it's not a good day for a friend to come over, she wants me. And I can't always play. The only break I get from her demands on those days is the TV. While some TV is okay, too many days I need more time than she should have with that kind of stimulation. . . so I've had to get creative to keep her little mind occupied in other ways. Here's what we've done:

Bowls and scoops and cups with dry beans. Colored water in a squirt bottle. Shaving cream on the table. Buttons and cups and scoops. My tool box of scrapbooking trinkets. Sorting with little animal beads. Pattern blocks
I've also done sponges with water, play dough, sidewalk chalk, pieces of yarn to 'draw' on the carpet, water in the kitchen sink with strainers, cups and suds.

But now my creativity is dwindling and recycling these activities so close together hasn't gotten me as much mileage, so if any of you have any other great idea of things around the house that might keep this little one busy, I'd love you forever if you'd share. (not that I don't already!)

What about coloring some kind of picture (or better yet several pictures) for each member of the family. You could have her make some kind of "I love you" book for everyone with the pictures. (Not a super creative thought, but if it helps for a little while, why not?)

Thanks for reminding me of some simple things we can try here. We also love popsicle sticks, wicki sticks (bendy stix), and boxes.

Darcee,
You are just wonderful. I have it so easy with Tristan and Gabriel. They are both very calm and mellow. My older children were the ones who needed much more attention. Still do. I just appreciate you and seeing all of the hard work you do. Tessa is very lucky (as are all of your kiddos) to have you.

Oh how I love this. Here in Alabama, my girls scoop cups of water out of our dog's dish. Where were you when I needed you?

Christina just reminded me that Mary love so sneak kitty food and eat it where I won't see her. YUCK--and I don't recommend it for and activity for Tessa.

Great ideas! I might have to employ some of those.

Balloons are always a hit at my house. I'm amazed how one helium balloon can keep Drew happy -- and you can get them for free at Kohler's, Macey's, & Roberts while there shopping. At a reunion once we filled I think water balloons with air (or maybe just regular-sized balloons not very full) and spread them around the room. The kids had to catch them with a butterfly net & put them in a laundry basket.
