Three years ago today my Grandma died. I miss her and think of her often. I think of her every time I make her ham chowder, her scones, finger jello and sausage and waffles. I think of her whenever I attempt quilting and some sewing projects. I think of her often as I'm overwhelmed with 5 children--she had 11! (and she raised them in much smaller quarters than I have.) She continues to be a good influence in my life--and I've wished many a day that I could call her and ask her how to do something that I remember her doing.
I attribute a lot of my creativity to her (my dad has it too, along with all of my siblings). She was always thinking up fun new things to do or try. She was ever inventive in her cooking, sewing and crafting projects. She was always on the look out to create things with the simple resources she had. I am thankful every day for the gift of creativity. It blesses my life in so many ways. I made this layout a few years ago of my memories of her and Grandpa--click on it if you are interested in reading the journaling. (This layout was published in September 2003 issue of Creating Keepsakes.)
In honor of her, here is a link to a recipe for the wheat snacks she used to make. (cinnamon sugar + salt is also yummy combination on them) Maybe some of you will try it. And today I think I'll make mini cream puffs and serve them up with a chicken/celery/mayo mixture for dinner. (She used to always make those and I had forgotten about them until I was thumbing threw a bunch of her recipes yesterday.) Porter family, what else do you remember about Grandma?
Grandma, thanks for being a wonderful influence and example. I love you and miss you.

I love your talents!
Thank you so much. It was hard to read throught the tears. How greatful I am for having had her as a Mom.

I thought of her as I made all my sisters and friends pin cushions. I have 2 pin cushions that she made for me. I also have towels that hang on the fridge and hot pads. These items are not put away because I want to remember her now, everyday.
She taught me and my friends macrame for 4-H. She gave me starts of her many house plants. She was a game player and was always good for some fun, especially if it was a water fight! Lots of special memories!
There are so many things about grandma how do you pick a few? I remember her gentle smile. She had a twinkle in her eye. She kept busy. I loved the watching her make bread and going to her freezer for the yummy snacks she had stored. Who could forget the games? She is an amazing role model.
Darcee, you are so special to remember my sweet, wonderful Mother. She is the one special person that I think of everyday in everything that I do. Her example reminds me to make good choices, her talents help me to use mine (which she showed me how to use), and the memories of her remind me that she could and I can survive any trial. I love my mother with all of my heart. cp
I remember taking the picture of Grandma it brought such a flood of feelings. thank you for sharing, Yes she has left an amazing legacy for all of us to rise higher and be better in all that we do. Thanks again for remembering My mom and friend. The last thing she said to Margene and I before she went to sleep. Was "Stand up stright" She didn't just mean don't slump. she meant stand tall in all that you do and are. We have much to be greatful for, and bless lives. She was right! and I think of her last request often. So lets all try to stand a little taller.
You all rise me to greater heights, Thank you db
