Skirts

My sisters have made lots of cute skirts for their girls. I really, really, really didn't want to get involved. I'm not a seamstress, (except on paper) and fabric intimidates me, and I'm really not interested in that line of crafting. BUT, with Andi so close in Utah for a few months I thought it would be fun to see how she made them and it would be a good excuse to get together. So I made an appointment and went fabric shopping. (That was experience enough since I'm clueless about fabric!) And for a dummy like myself, I actually understood and was able to come home and make one on my own. Mine doesn't look nearly as professional as the one I did with her because I don't have a serger, but it isn't too bad given the brains behind the operation :). I have stuff to make one more, but I need a little more fabric so I'll have to post that one later. The pink one, I made with Andi (she did most of the work :). The black one I did myself. I still haven't entirely convinced myself that it is very cute. It might have to do with the fact that I don't like how the green shirt goes with it. (Anyone know where I can get a plain baby t-shirt or onesie in that light green or purple? White doesn't look that great with it either.) But it might also be because I'm a fashion idiot and I don't often know what is cute and what isn't. I'm just dumb that way. I'm ready to hear the brutal truth. Is it ugly? (or maybe our little model just needs a better hairdresser??)

I'm jealous you got to have a skirt making day. Maybe you can teach me now...

I think the green shirt matches fine. I am having mixed feelings on the bottom part though. It seems to be a lot more bright than the main portion; but with a girl like that how can it not be cute!

I know what you mean, Kels. The shirt does match the top of the skirt (which is why I got it--it was the only fabric I took shopping with me). But when I photo shop the lighter green or the purple on the shirt instead of the darker green, it balances the brightness of the bottom and I like it a little better. So it makes me wonder do I just not like the skirt or is the shirt that bugs me? I still don't know.

How fun! If you don't like the bottom, it wouldn't be hard to take it off and put on something else. I do love the style of it!

I want to make a couple of skirts for my girls for school. They are cheaper than pants and they love them.

I'm so glad that you made more! I think the purple/green one is cute. It does need a different color of shirt, agreed. Try purple if you can't find green. The hardest part is always fining a matching shirt!

So cute darcee, yes I think purple would be darling with it. You made me want to pull out my sewing machine!

FYI...as I was looking at your cute daughter my oldest daughter, Erin, came in and the first thing out of her mouth was, "Oh what a cute skirt!" You did a great job and I love the ric-rac on both!

Okay, so the matching sweater you found for which she was wearing on Sunday was PERFECT! She looked darling. I like them.
